Early Intervention: Babies and Under5s

Making use of video, as appropriate, of family interactions or video-materials to facilitate discussion

  • Psycho-educational support to parents of babies under 1 and staff, using a Treasure Basket to support all areas of development + encourage reflective functioning, shown to be effective prevention.
  • Home Visits working with families with developmental/ behaviour concerns of a young child/baby, using a holistic model involving mother and baby, father, siblings, and extended family as appropriate.
  • 'What do children think?': a Parents Group/ Parenting Group focusing on difficult behaviours and to support parents to be more effective at playing and supporting the development of their children.
  • The Early Bird course (developed by the National Autistic Society) is a 3-month-long early intervention programme for parents of children with autistic behaviours under 5.


Autism and Family Mental Health

  • Home visits working with families with an autistic child, using a holistic model and often video-clips to enable parents to look at and reflect on their child's/ their own responses.
  • The Autism/ Challenging Behaviour Training and Support Group (weekly) is open to parents of children of all ages and allows parents/carers to share effective ways of supporting their child.


Children under Stress

  • Individual Play + Child/Family Therapy to child with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
  • The Children’s Bereavement and Loss services are targeted at children who have experienced bereavement or loss, and those caring for them, involving parents, teachers and other professionals.
  • Seasons for Growth is an educationally based therapeutic group-programme in schools for up to 4 children who are troubled by bereavement/ loss.
  • Children with emotional and behavioural difficulties can learn simple techniques for calming down/ increasing confidence with Yoga for children in playgroups, primary/ secondary schools or at home.

 
Teenagers at risk

  • Body-awareness and assertiveness approach using Yoga for teenagers, aimed at young people at risk of self harm, eating disorders, depression, etc, focusing on a healthy attitude to body issues.
  • A preventative group-programme for young people experiencing difficulties around sex, drugs, body image, eating disorders, depression and other mental health issues: Personal Education Course.


Parents/ Families at risk of mental health breakdown

  • Offering a preventative group approach, the Personal education for adults offers support with Mental Health and Stress management before issues get out of hand.
  • Aimed at parents of young children with emotional/behavioural difficulties, Yoga for Parents teaches fun exercises to help their child to calm down, liven up, self-discipline and body-awareness.
  • Holistic health approaches can often tackle psycho-somatic presentations of problems, and Homeopathy is particularly well accepted and effective in some of the local cultural communities.
  • Parents who are experiencing emotional difficulties as a result or linked to parenting, can talk through their family issues in Counselling for parents.
